RockHard Racing Gets Back Into Crawling

RockHard Racing Justin HallJustin Hall of RockHard Racing took his freshly built All Terrain Fabrication/JM Rigging #713 Unlimited Class buggy to the W.E.Rock Event at Donner Ski Ranch this past weekend. This would be Justin’s first Rock Crawling event of the year, and first competition driving with a Rear Steer buggy ever.

Justin recently purchased the old Torchmate built W.E.Rock buggy. With the help of All Terrain Fabrication, Justin and ATF outfitted the former Pro Modified buggy with a custom Rear Steer axle and transformed it into a competitive Unlimited Class buggy. Justin had a total of 8 hours driving the buggy before the competition.

With Donner being close to home, it made perfect sense for Justin and Spotter/Father Mark to break out the new buggy. Walking the courses Saturday, Justin and Mark both knew they would have their work cut out for them. Saturday started off great and the team was getting the hang of having rear steer. On their third course trouble would strike. Having a perfect run going for them, on the and final gate of the course the Carrier Bearing on the front driveshaft let go and took out the fuel line and brakes. It was not something that could be fix within the 45 minute allotted breakdown time. So they would miss that course and their last course for the day. Justin and Mark would make a trip to Trent Fabrication in Reno, NV, who would just happen to have the exact replacement Bearing for them.

RockHard Racing Justin HallIn todays competitions it is impossible to comeback from missing two courses. So Sunday’s objective was to just get seat time and put the buggy in different situations in order to get used to it. You could tell that after each course, Justin was starting to figure the car out and was getting smoother with his maneuvers.

By the end of the weekend, Justin and Mark, would end up in 8th place. If they did not miss the two courses on Sunday they would have been up in the top 5 for sure. But that is Rock Crawling and anything can happen.  Justin would like to thank all his Marketing Partners for supporting his crawling efforts. JM Rigging, All Terrain Fabrication, RuffStuff Specialties, Nitro Gear and Axle, Dynomax Exhaust, R&B Co., South Bay Driveline and WrapsNMotion.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Justin and the RockHard Racing team at the Calrocs Event in August as well as the Ultra 4 Fallon 250 in September.
