The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Will Be Featured On The Discovery Channel's Popular Fast N Loud Series Sept 15 and Sept 22Spencer Penrose of Colorado Springs realized early the tourist potential of Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs. In 1916, Penrose finished converting the narrow carriage road to the 14,115′ summit of America’s Mountain into the Pikes Peak Highway. In order to publicize his adopted hometown and his new highway, he devised a simple plan – host an automobile race to the summit of Pikes Peak on the “Highest Highway in the World.”
The first Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb was held August 10- 12, 1916. Through the years the road had been widened, and now narrowed and paved, but for the most part the course and race format have not changed significantly from the original. Drivers and cars came from all over the world to compete in one of the most grueling courses known to the world of racing. Consisting of 12.42 miles of surface with 156 turns, the race concludes at the peak’s 14,115 ft. summit.
Broadmoor Pikes PeakNow, almost 100 years later, men and women from across the globe gather every summer in their continuing effort to “conquer Pikes Peak.”  The race is the second-oldest in America behind the Indianapolis 500. We continue to celebrate the history and legacy of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Brought to you by Gran Turismo with the new 100th Anniversary Club.
